Mission Statement/Goal: Uplifting Experiences for Children with Cancer and Serious Illness. Do anything, be anything, achieve everything is our mantra at Camp Quality. We are a national charitable organization devoted to providing free camp experiences and year-round programming for children with cancer and serious illness.

Description

Our six overnight camps in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario are provided to children ages 7 – 17 affected by cancer and serious illness. The camps are focused on kids building new skills like swimming and hiking, kayaking and storytelling, making friends and gaining memories to last a lifetime. We also provide a leadership development camp called New Heights for teens and an adventure challenge called Breaking Borders that are designed to challenge each young person physically and mentally. Our camps are fuelled by over 450 volunteers who give of their time and talents. These volunteers include our counsellors who ensure campers have fun, our medical practitioners who ensure the safety of each child and the program and camp directors who lead our amazing programming. We are supported by a group of generous corporations, foundations, individuals and service clubs who understand the need and how their gifts ensure our camps remain free, and that through their support each child will increase their self-esteem and their quality of life.

Impact/Key Numbers

Camp Quality has been supported thousands of children and families in Canada since 1988. We served 371 children and young adults in 2019 with the help of 473 volunteers (and over 100,000 volunteer hours).

Mission Statement/Goal: a) to establish, maintain and manage a system of nature reserves in the area of the Niagara Escarpment b) to educate the public about conservation and preservation of the landscape, ecology and wildlife of the Niagara Escarpment

Description

Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy (escarpment.ca) has created 170 nature reserves, protecting 54 square kilometres of Southern Ontario which protect the habitat of 55 rare species at risk. Since we primarily receive gifts of land, cash donations need only cover our costs of accepting donations. Typically $5,000 donated dollars will allow us to receive a donated 100-acre property with three species at risk worth $200,000. Thus your cash support is multiplied 40 times. That 100-acre property typically sequesters 250 tonnes of carbon annually and protects $250,000 of ecological services (like cleaner air, cleaner water and tourism) annually. The donation of a $110 item allows us to protect $4,000 worth of land which sequesters 5 tonnes of CO2 and $3,600 EVERY YEAR.
